The Fondation Dynastie website supports NatyfTV, despite the common front that is being put up to curb Quebec's only French-language television channel owned by Afro-descendants.

NatyfTV is trying to obtain a compulsory distribution license from the CRTC and the majority of

have written to the CRTC to object. This license could make a big difference to the careers of creators who too often face closed doors.

Like many organizations, Fondation Dynastie has been trying for several years to find a television broadcaster. To date, we've been turned down by almost every broadcaster in Quebec. The only broadcaster to have given the Gala Dynastie a chance is NatyfTV, despite its limited resources.

While the "majors" claim to be making efforts to ensure better representation of diversity on their airwaves, the reality is quite the opposite: there are, again and again, more projects discarded, set aside, than productions put on air.

NatyfTV isn't about trying too hard, it's about making a real impact for our talent and producers.

However, strong and significant gestures are possible, like the one recently made by the CBC, which allowed Black Is Now Canada to organize the Legacy Awards in Toronto. Why is Quebec so late? Why are we so reluctant in Quebec to share the ice with new players? And even to help them access the audiovisual market in large numbers, rather than the crumbs offered by those who hold a virtual monopoly?

It's paradoxical, even ironic, that at the same time as all the major broadcasters in Quebec - who don't have a single person from a diverse background on their respective boards - have the "right to make diversity a priority", the only TV channel owned by black people can't aspire to be a creator of content... and wealth for under-represented communities? This has got to stop.

The under-representation of visible minorities on Quebec television, both in front of and behind the camera, is a problem that cannot be solved by industry decision-makers alone, since they are responsible for this state of affairs and the distressing findings observed. They cannot be both the problem and the only solution.

Our communities need to be at the table, not instrumentalized by attractions such as tax credits or subsidies. We need to be the primary beneficiaries of corrective initiatives, not the eternal losers in an industry that struggles to recognize that it's time for real change. Now! Not tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Now!

Out of solidarity and a desire to change things, we're asking you to sign the petition to send out the message that things have to change.
