about the program

Écho Musique is aimed at emerging and mid-career professionals who want to benefit from strategic coaching to advance a project related to the music industry.

Through 21 in-person sessions, as well as 10 online capsules, you'll be guided by industry experts, with structured coaching, mentoring and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.

The program concludes with a presentation of your project in front of a panel of experts, a unique opportunity to hone your pitch, attract potential partners and solidify your trajectory in the music industry.

Target audience

Candidates aged 21 and over. Emerging or mid-career artists, entrepreneurs and music professionals. Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.

Eligibility criteria
  • Be a member or descendant of black communities
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
  • Have a project in development, either to structure and advance your own career as an independent artist, or to lead an initiative to support the development of other artists.
  • Reside in the province of Quebec
  • Be recognized as a professional by your peers
  • Have produced at least one musical project presented in a professional context
  • Be available to participate in the face-to-face program for its entire duration
  • If your mother tongue is English, bilingualism is an asset, as the training will be in French only.

To submit your application

‍Step1: Register!

It's time to fill in the registration form. To complete it, you'll need to submit:

  • Your CV
  • A maximum 3-page document presenting: 1) your project, 2) its objectives, 3) the people involved, 4) an idea of the costs, 5) a general schedule (without too many details, because the program is there to help you structure it!) and 6) the aspects that Écho Musique can help you with.
  • A video of less than 5 minutes in which you: 1) introduce yourself, 2) tell us about your career in the music industry, 3) explain your project and the challenges you face, and 4) explain why Écho Musique is essential to helping you make it a reality.

  • A link to project examples (optional) 

Step 2: Introduce yourself!

In the form, send us a short video presentation. It's your chance to shine! Tell us about yourself, your background, what made you want to become a music professional, what makes you unique, and why you want to join our program.

Step 3: Confirm your registration

Once you've submitted the form, you'll see a message confirming that your application has been successful.

Step 4: Evaluating your application

Once you have submitted your application, our team will carefully analyze your file, taking into account your background, your commitment and your development potential.

We'll also look at your artistic achievements, your professional vision and your motivation for joining the program. We're looking for candidates who are ready to invest themselves fully in this experience. 

Each application will be carefully and rigorously evaluated.

Step 5: Update your registration

We'll keep you informed of the progress of your application by e-mail. Selected applicants will be contacted by e-mail between May 26 and May 30, 2025. Stay tuned!

A member of the Quebec and Ontario bars, Ms. Tohry is regularly invited to speak at conferences on topics such as copyright, influencer marketing and arts law. A 2016 graduate of Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law, she now teaches entertainment law as a lecturer. She also supervises the intellectual property division of the Clinique juridique de l'Université de Montréal. For many years, he has been interested in the history of the Black Atlantic and the cultures and arts that emerged from it, particularly through music and film. He is also the instigator of Impressions, an ephemeral bookshop showcasing Afrodescendant works. He has collaborated with numerous organizations, including the RIDM, the Montreal Black Film Festival and the Musée des beaux-arts for the exhibition À plein volume: Basquiat et la musique. Passionate about independent music, he was also musical director of university radio station CHOQ.CA.

Daniel Lafrance has been a music publisher since 1976. He has also been a record producer, manager, tour operator and tour director. After running his own publishing house for three decades, he has been Managing Director of music publisher Éditorial Avenue since early 2000. Daniel Lafrance is founder of the Association des Professionnels de l'Édition Musicale (APEM) and honorary life member of ADISQ, which has awarded him the Félix for Publisher of the Year at its annual Gala on 9 occasions. He also received the Christopher J. Reed Award in June 2013 for his commitment to the professional publishing community and his exceptional contribution to the practice and recognition of the profession. More recently, in 2017 and again in 2020, he was named Publisher of the Year by SOCAN. Daniel Lafrance has served on several boards, including ADISQ (secretary and treasurer from 1985 to 1996), Musicaction (vice-president from 1992 to 1996), SODRAC (from 1990 to 2008) as vice-president and SACEM representative, CINARS (treasurer from 1989 to 1992) and APEM (founder, president from 2003 to 2011 and vice-president from 2011 to 2016). He also served on the CMRRA Board of Directors from 2009 to 2019 and on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Today, he represents the publishing sector on Sodec's Commission du disque et du spectacle de variétés, and sits on the Board of Directors of Music Publishers Canada, the Board of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Socan Governance Committee and chairs the Socan DR (Reproduction Rights) Committee. Daniel Lafrance has been giving workshops and lectures in Canada and France, and teaching courses for APEM for over twenty years. He is co-author of a book entitled "L'édition musicale, de la partition à la musique virtuelle", published in 2010 by Éditions Berger and distributed in Canada, France, Switzerland and Belgium. A second, updated and enriched version of the book was published in autumn 2018. He also published "Après la disruption, innover en édition musicale" in November 2020.

Who can register? What documents do I need to provide? How does the training work?

How much does the program cost?

The good news is that the $15,000 program is ENTIRELY FREE, thanks to our generous partners.

What is the application deadline?

Entries must be submitted via the online form by Sunday, September 7, 2025, 11:59 pm.

How long do I have to cancel my registration?

Your commitment to this program is the key to its success. If you are selected and must cancel after September 19, 2025, a $250 administrative fee will apply.

Do I need creative writing experience to register?

Minimum experience and a strong interest in the craft of writing are required. If you've already been published in a professional or amateur context and have a personal project you'd like to work on with us, this program is for you!

Is the program in French only?

All training and documentation is in French, but you can communicate and write in English if you wish.

What opportunities do I have after training?

Anything is possible! The course is designed to immerse you in the industry, pushing your creativity to the limit and developing your literary skills. You'll also have the chance to expand your professional network.
